A cosmetic mistake may put you back a considerable amount of time, whether you’re getting ready for a regular day or a big night out.
‘Makeup accidents can be very irritating, particularly when you are in a hurry,’ says Saffron Hughes of FalseEyelashes.co.uk.
‘A stray wrist may wreck your whole eye makeup look or leave you with bronzer all over your face.’
Saffron has put up some great ideas on how to repair common cosmetic errors without having to start all over again to help us prevent time-consuming makeup mistakes in the future.
Mascara that is clumpy
The first step in removing mascara clumps, according to Saffron, is to make sure your mascara is still in date.
Mascara only lasts three months, so if yours is older, the clumping may be a sign that it’s beyond its prime.
‘Wet your clean spoolie with a little micellar water if your mascara isn’t beyond its expiration date,’ she says.
‘Begin combing from the base to the tip of the lashes with the wand, wriggling as you go to collect any clumps on the brush.’
Mascara that has been wet
It’s a nuisance to get moist lumps of mascara where they’re not meant to be, since one tiny dot may quickly grow into a huge smear if you’re not cautious.
‘The easiest method to repair damp mascara is to put a cotton bud into micellar water,’ explains Saffron.
‘Place the cotton bud over the blunder and twist gently to remove the black glob.
‘You may need to reapply some eye makeup, but it’s preferable to removing the whole look you’ve worked so hard to get.’

smudged eyeliner
Smudged or uneven eyeliner is one of the most irritating cosmetic mistakes a person can do, and it’s a big headache to correct.
To prevent more harm to the rest of your makeup, Saffron recommends applying your eyes first, then the rest of your face, so that removing errors doesn’t result in further collateral damage.
‘Dip a cotton bud in eye make-up remover,’ she adds. Before drawing over the troublesome eyeliner to remove it, run it over the back of your hand to make sure it’s not too moist.
‘To repair your eyeshadow beneath, dab it dry with a tissue, then reapply your flawless winged eyeliner.’
‘Make sure the cotton bud isn’t too moist, as this can spread the makeup issue instead than removing it,’ she says.
‘This is also why I suggest starting with the base so you don’t have to remove any foundation if you make a mistake.’
Under-eye concealer that has creased
There’s a thin line between using just enough concealer to cover what you want concealed and going creasey with too much.
To gently smooth out the wrinkles beneath your eyes, Saffron recommends using a fluffy makeup brush or your finger.
‘Set with your compact powder as soon as the fine lines have vanished,’ she says.
‘To prevent this from occurring again, apply concealer solely to the darkest parts of your face throughout your makeup application.
‘Before applying powder, they are typically the inner corners of your eyes.’
Foundation that is cakey or uneven
No one wants their complexion to appear cakey or uneven, whether they want full coverage or a foundation that is barely there.
‘If you apply too much foundation, you may easily get cakey foundation,’ explains Saffron.
‘Predicting how much foundation we’ll need may be difficult; it’s something that comes with experience.
‘So, if you accidentally apply too much foundation, moisten a clean sponge and squeeze off the excess water.’
‘Blend the foundation that is on your face by dabbing the sponge over your face to gather up any extra product.
‘After you’ve gotten your desired appearance, spritz your face with setting spray to seal in the makeup and run a wet sponge over your face one final time to blend everything together.’

Excessive blush or contouring
At the best of times, blush and contour may be difficult to get right – it’s easy to go from too little to far too much.
‘Use the same beauty sponge or makeup brush you used to apply foundation and run over the blush to “knock” down some of the color,’ Saffron advises if you’ve gone a little too heavy-handed with blush.
‘You can use the same technique or use a loose translucent powder to tone down the color while blending if you’ve applied too much powder contour,’ she says.
