Carmelo Anthony made his NBA debut with the Denver Nuggets in 2003 and quickly established himself as one of the league’s top players. That year, the No. 3 overall selection demonstrated he was a deadly scorer right away, demonstrating why he was such a high-profile prospect coming out of high school and college.
Melo, on the other hand, had his ups and downs as a young star, and it was during one of the most well-publicized of them that he realized just how powerful the NBA is.
While with the Nuggets, Carmelo Anthony was suspended for 15 games.

Carmelo Anthony’s fourth season in the NBA, but it was also the first season in which the former Nuggets star proved to everyone that he was one of the greatest basketball players on the world. With 28.9 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, Anthony was named to his first All-Star team that season.
However, Anthony — who was the league’s top scorer at the time but finished second — had a difficult encounter with some of his teammates in December of that season.
A brawl broke out between the two squads during a game versus the Knicks. The NBA then banned seven players, including J.R. Smith and Nate Robinson, according to ESPN. The NBA, on the other hand, penalized Anthony the most when he struck former Knicks winger Mardy Collins, who was suspended for 15 games.
Because the harshness of the punishment surprised Anthony, he spoke with then-NBA commissioner David Stern.
The discussion seems to have been very eye-opening.
Carmelo Anthony and David Stern had an eye-opening discussion.

Anthony recently discussed the event and some of his other errors on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast hosted by Barstool Sports. And it seems that during his discussion with Stern, the former Nuggets great learnt about the NBA’s enormous influence.
“I walk up to him and say, ‘Why do you do that to me?’” On the Sept. 19 show, Anthony stated.
Stern basically stated that Anthony’s track record of reckless conduct had a part in the decision, according to the now-Lakers star. Melo further said that the previous commissioner asked him whether he wanted to stay on his current route with some of the people in his life, or if he wanted to be a part of the NBA, a multibillion-dollar business.
‘You’re going to leave it alone,’ Stern replied. I know who you’re hanging out with. I’m aware of your residence, as well as theirs. Anthony remembered, “I know when you shut your eyes, I know when you wake up.” “He says to me, ‘I know what they’re up to.’ You have to either order them to halt or cut them off.’ And I’m thinking to myself, “Damn.” ‘How the f*** are you?’ That’s when I realized the NBA was a federal agency.”
Anthony’s viewpoint seemed to change as a result of the discussion, and it may have even helped him become an NBA icon.
Since then, Carmelo Anthony has established himself as an NBA icon.
Anthony, who has been in the league for 18 years, said he understood why the league wanted to keep watch on him when he was a rising star.
“I understand that; I need to know everything if I’m handing you $100 million. He said, “I didn’t comprehend it at the time.” “It took becoming older and wiser for me to realize, ‘Damn, that motherf***** made sense.’”
Anthony’s subsequent choices seem to have aided him in becoming an all-time great. Melo has been named to 10 All-Star teams and six All-NBA teams, and he led the NBA in scoring in 2012-13. He has a lifetime scoring average of 23.0 points per game. With 27,370 points, the 37-year-old is ranked 10th in NBA history and 12th in NBA/ABA history.
It’s unknown how important the discussion with Stern was in Anthony’s development into the potential Hall of Famer he is today. However, he said that the brawl with the Knicks was his last foolish behavior as a rising star. The whole experience seems to have been eye-opening, showing him not just how strong the NBA is, but also what it takes to be a professional basketball player.
He’s also been a very decent one.
