The NFL trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Chargers have a few key decisions to make before it arrives. With an eye on their future as well as what they can acquire now, here are two trades that could help them win in the short-term and improve for years to come.
The “nfl trade deadline” is a day in the NFL where teams can trade players. The Chargers must make 2 best trades before the 2021 nfl trade deadline.
The deadline for NFL trades is rapidly approaching. All transactions must be completed by November 2nd. Let’s look at two deals the Los Angeles Chargers need to make before the deadline to enhance their squad.
Through Week 7, the Chargers have a great start to the season. They’re 4-2 and in first place in the AFC West. They are now on a bye week, so this is an ideal moment for management to seek further assistance. The Bolts are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements. The offense has been playing well and scoring scores (until against the Ravens last week), but a deal for a top-tier defensive lineman and a running-stopping linebacker could help them reach the top.
There are a few guys they could go out and grab, but two in particular stand out.
Before we get to the names, we need to travel back in time. Only a few occasions have the Chargers gone out and acquired a player in the middle of the season. They don’t trade for anybody, thus it’s exceedingly unusual for them to do so. Tom Telesco has only made two transactions throughout the season since becoming the Chargers’ general manager. In 2020, he dealt Desmond King to the Tennessee Titans, and in 2017, he moved Dontrelle Inman to the Chicago Bears. During his tenure, he has yet to make a move for a player.
With that in mind, let’s look at the two players he needs to acquire before the NFL trade deadline.
Before the 2021 NFL Trade Deadline, the best Chargers trades
2. Philadelphia Eagles’ Javon Hargrave, defensive tackle
This season, Javon Hargrave has been one of the greatest defensive lineman in the NFL. According to Next-Gen data, he now leads the league in pass rush win-rate. He’s playing professional football, albeit for a 1-5 team.
This season, the Eagles are not going anywhere. They would sell him now, when his worth is at its peak, if they were wise. Along with his 16 solo stops, Hargrave has six sacks and one forced fumble this season.
This season, Javon Hargrave has dominated the run and pass game, leading all interior defensive linemen in pressures (22), sacks (6), and defensive stops (6). (23).
The only other IDL in the top five in pressures (19), sacks (3), and stops is Aaron Donald (19). #TBvsPHI | #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/SqYbTOJyLu #TBvsPHI | #FlyEaglesFly

A defensive lineman is desperately needed by the Chargers. Justin Jones has been sidelined with an injury for the most of the year and is still on the IR. They are really missing him. Linval Joseph, a former pro-bowler, is having a good season with 12 tackles but just one sack.
Meanwhile, Jerry Tillery, the first-round selection in 2019, is not living up to his hype. Tillery is now harming the Chargers’ defense. Hargrave should rush in and turn the situation around. Linemen are having trouble blocking him, which is exactly what the Chargers need to complement Joey Bosa. The Bolts are without Melvin Ingram, so they’ll need someone else to come up big time.
1. Houston Texans’ Zach Cunningham, LB
The Houston Texans are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline.
Last season, Zade Cunningham led the NFL in total tackles with 164. (106 solo). No one is more qualified to come in and repair this dreadful run-stopping defense. In terms of run yards allowed, the Chargers are dead bottom. They have given up nearly 100 more run yards than the Texans, with a total of 975 yards.
Cunningham isn’t solving Houston’s issues because the defense as a whole isn’t very good. The Bolts do have several playmakers who can wreak havoc on the passing game. Derwin James Jr. is one of the league’s finest defensive players, and he, together with Chris Harris Jr., Asante Samuel Jr., and Joey Bosa, could contribute to improved results.
At the Trade Deadline, #Texans will be huge sellers.

The Chargers will have an excellent tackler with a nose for the ball if they sign Cunningham. Because both of Los Angeles’ starting linebackers are now injured, now is the greatest moment to make a move. Meanwhile, linebacker Kyzir White is doing well for the Bolts. Despite the fact that they were blasted out, he picked off Lamar Jackson twice on Sunday.
When everyone is healthy, Cunningham would be a great addition to a strong linebacker core.
